The Team

Sue Dawson - Director
Sue Dawson began her career on the other side of the camera, as an actress and presenter in television, radio and theatre. She then moved into writing and producing, forming her own production company in 1995.  Early commissions were mainly in the field of social documentary; creating programmes and educational resources on Aids awareness, alternative therapies, parenting, youth justice, anger management, teenage pregnancy and children in care. Throughout the work Sue practised an ethical code rare in the world of filmmaking: all participants have informed choice throughout a production, they are allowed to see footage that involves them and have a right of veto over their recorded materials. It is this code that has helped Sue gain the trust of those working with vulnerable and ‘hard to reach’ groups and as a result the company has gone from strength to strength.

In 2004 the charity Film It was created, developing the companies work with vulnerable young people and supporting them in finding positive direction and a way out of exposure to high risk pursuits and criminality. Today Film It is an independent company and registered charity which continues to develop and deliver award winning arts projects.

Lucy Purdon- Project Manager
Lucy Purdon graduated with BA (Hons) Film and Video from The London College of Communication in 2003 and began her career researching at Granada Television. She has produced and directed feature length documentaries and shorts for production companies and charities all over the world on a wide range of issues.  Her previous experience in the industry and working with vulnerable young people from Peckham to Kenya has led her to project manage at Film It; Lucy has co-ordinated and delivered innovative, challenging, award winning projects on time and on budget which have helped open up a new positive future for the participants.

India Gebler- Freelance Film Facilitator and Project Manager
Having completed a Masters in African politics at the School of Oriental and African Studies, India began making documentaries with a strong political and social focus.  Work in the field of social exclusion convinced her of the benefit of film as a transformative tool and she began running workshops and community projects, helping young people to make their own films.  India has taught hundreds of people how to make films and video messages through Film It training courses, and she creates and delivers bespoke training packages for individual organisations, in addition to managing projects on a daily basis.
